Get Involved as a Driver
Own your own car.
First of all, check which category your car is most suited to here.
Then, review the technical regulations for your category here (click the "Regulations" bar).
Depending on your car, there may be some modifications required (generally to improve safety for the driver, and other cars). If you have any queries about this, please contact our Competitor Liaison by clicking here.
The final requirement regarding your car is to obtain an iRace Vehicle Logbook. Use the form available here to apply. The cost is $20.
Now that the car is sorted, the next step is to get a recognised licence. Any circuit racing licence is accepted for iRace events. For information on the requirements for licences available from other bodies, please check the relevant website.
Or, you can get an Independent Race Series Circuit Licence. Our licence is available for the very affordable fee of $165. To obtain an iRace licence, you will need to have a medical examination (with your regular GP) and include the medical examination form with your application. You then need to complete the licence application form, to be issued a licence you will be required to provide proof of your competition history. There are three accepted proofs: completion of an observed licence test (we recommend the Marulan Driver Training Centre), or you already hold an equivalent licence with another body, or evidence of experience at three previous motorsport events. If you have any questions regarding licencing or the requirements, please contact our Competitor Liaison.
So, that's it! The next thing to do is enter for your first event - see our Admin page here to access our entry forms.

If you want to compete in the Independent Race Series, but don't want to worry about the hassles of owning a car, a lease deal may be the best option for you.
The first thing you need to do is decide which category you would like to race in. Check out the details of our categories here. If you have any queries about this, please contact our Competitor Liaison by clicking here.
Now, there are MANY places to look for a lease deal - the classifieds sections of the Australian motorsport publications (Auto Action, Motorsport News and so on), or one of the many websites:AutoSports (Australian), My105 (Australian), or visit our very own classifieds HERE. Our Competitor Liaison also has a lot of contacts and information on lease drives that may be available, contact him by clicking here.
There are many different types of lease available - depending on your budget and requirements. The most basic deal is a "Take-Away" lease, where you pick up the car from the owner, transport it to the event, where you look after it yourself (including putting tyres on and fuel in the car). The ultimate deal is the "Arrive-and-Drive", where all you have to worry about is getting yourself to the circuit, with your helmet and driving suit. The owner prepares the car, maintains it at the circuit, and you just jump in and drive. This type of lease deal may have different inclusions in the package - some will include a new set of tyres and fuel, where these may cost extra in other packages. It is important that you find out what is included, and what extra expenses you may have before committing to a deal. It's also important to be clear about what happens if you crash the car, or what happens if the car has a mechanical failure during the event.
