Volunteer Reporters

Volunteer Race Reports.

The iRace website is maintained by one person. That one person has a full time job, prepares his own race car, and competes at all the iRace events. It sometimes makes it a little difficult to keep track of what happened in every race, and write reports for the website (and for publication).

Volunteer Race Reports make it possible for all events to be covered in detail, but they require volunteer reporters. If you would like to write a report or two for the Independent Race Series, we would be more than happy to include them on the website.

The reports don't have to follow any kind of traditional format either. We're happy to use traditional type reports, or more creative styles such as:
  • A weekend in the life of.... - where the author is part of a particular race team, and documents the whole event for that competitor, from the journey to the circuit, practice, qualifying and the races. Behind-the-scenes insight, and photos can really add to this type of report.
  • A hotlap of.... - where the author is a competitor, and provides a narrative of a lap of a particular circuit. This can be in written format, audio file format, or onboard footage.
  • Photo Diary - less heavy on the text, this format would concentrate mainly on photos, with short captions/explanations. "Here we are arriving at the track". "Unloading the car". "Setting up the garage". "Fixing the clutch". "The team out for dinner"... and so on. Obviously having a digital camera is kind of important for this one, and it may be helpful if you have someone (partner?) who is willing to snap photos throughout the weekend.
  • Stig Style - Yes, I know the Stig doesn't actually speak, and that he's confused by stairs, let alone computers, but the idea for this one is that you remain (relatively) anonymous. You write an account of the race weekend, and (much like Top Gear) it's the job of the reader's to try and guess who you are.
  • Technical Difficulties - If you had a particular problem at this meeting, either through something failing, or trying to solve a handling problem, this article could be about how you went about solving the problem, and what you eventually came up with as a solution.
  • Or something fantastic we haven't even thought of yet!
